Foster City Hosts International IOM World Championship Regatta

The World Regatta Championship will be held in the United States for the first time ever, and Foster City is excited to be named the hosting venue! The Regatta consists of over 100 participants from 25 different countries who have trained and qualified for the World Championship located here in Foster City. The model boats that will be used are highly technological, sail boat styled boats that are replicas of actual sailboats. The Championship begins on May 8, 2015 and lasts through May 16, 2015. Each day, races will be held between 9 AM and 6:30 PM.

Event Location and Parking: The 2015 IOM World Championships are going to be held on the central area of the lagoon directly adjacent to the Recreation and Teen Centers. Parking will be reserved for participants only towards the south end of the Recreation Center parking lot located by the VIBE teen center.
Community Outreach: Foster City is a proud community and known as “the jewel of the Peninsula.” Parks and Recreation Department staff along with the Model Yacht Committee encourage the community to come out, support, and watch the event. The World Championships will prove to be a great opportunity to be a spectator and have good international conversation.
